LINDSAY CLEGHORN Peacefully, on December 23, 2005, at the Grace Hospital, Lindsay Cleghorn passed away at the age of 81. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley and his sister Betty. Lindsay will be sadly missed by his son Dr. Scott Cleghorn, his children Sheri and Keith and their mother Monika; as well as his daughter, Kim Ranson (Rob) and their children Derek and Lauren. He will also be missed by his sister Mae and her husband Harry Van Der Veken and their family. Lindsay was born and raised in the North End of the city, and other than a ten year transfer to Montreal, he and his family made their home in Winnipeg. He was always proud of his family along with his Scottish roots. He never missed the opportunity to regale his friends and family with stories of his Scottish heritage and explain why the water was sweeter in Scotland. During the Second World War he was a member of the naval crew that manned the corvette the Leeside. After the war, he joined Trans Canada Airlines. Throughout his career with TCA and Air Canada in Winnipeg and Montreal, he held a variety of increasingly responsible managerial positions. After 30 years of service he opted to take early retirement in 1976. Following his retirement he was contracted by ADP for special projects work which included assisting Air Jamaica with the development of their administration systems. During his retirement he kept in regular contact with a close circle of friends and was actively involved in the A.N. A.F. #283 Legion and served as Treasurer of their Pipes and Drums band. He was an avid reader, enjoyed creating poetry and he thoroughly enjoyed participating in and/or watching a good curling match. Lindsay was best known for his humour, his extensive repertoire of jokes, his intelligent repartee with friends and family as well as his appreciation for a fine glass of scotch. He often seemed to enjoy the telling of the joke more than the actual punch line. He was well loved and will be dearly missed. His family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital for their attention and care. As per Lindsay's wishes, there will be a private interment on Thursday morning, followed by a private gathering of close friends and family to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
